Dua for sharpening one's memory

Surat Ţāhā verses 25-28:

Translation: [Moses (عليه السلام)] said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech.

To improve your memory the following dua is very beneficial. It was prescribed to Ali (رضي الله عنه) when he complained of his weak memory. The method of dua is thus:

On a Thursday night, wake up in the last portion of the night. If the last portion is difficult, then wake up the middle of the night. If that too is difficult, then the first portion of the night. Preform four rakat in such a manner that in the first rakah you recite Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Yaseen. In the second rakah Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Dukhan. In the third rakah Surah Al-Fatiha and Al-Sajdah. In the forth rakah Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Mulk. After completing the Salah praise Allah and send salutations upon Rasulullah (
صلى الله عليه وسلم) and the rest of the Prophets. Ask for forgiveness for all the Muslims and all those who passed away with Iman. Then at the end recite the following dua:

Translation: O Allah, have mercy on me by abandonment of sins forever, so long as You keep me remaining. And have mercy on me from taking upon myself what does not concern me, and provide me good sight for what will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to make my heart constant in remembering Your Book as You taught me, and grant me that I recite it in the manner that will make You please with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to enlighten my sight with Your Book, and make my tongue free with it, and to relieve my heart with it, and to expand my chest with it, and to wash my body with it. For indeed, none aids me upon the truth other than You, and none give it except You, and there is no might or power except by Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent.

(Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol. 6, 45, Ch. 113, Hadith No. 3570)

Many people also advise that you place your right hand on your forehead after every Fardh Salaat and recite, 'Yaa Qawiyyu'  يا القوى) 11) times.  However, the ideal is to make Du’aa the Sunnah way.
